I'm a wild, Southern, 21 year old girl working my way, slowly but surely, into the sports entertainment world. I love nothing more than a crisp fall day, tailgates in the parking lot, freshly mowed and painted grass, and jumping to enter sandman.

And it starts again..

With college basketball officially behind us (I can say I faithfully picked Kentucky from early on in the season, I love watching talent like theirs…), it’s time to look forward to football season. Some may notice that I’ve glazed over baseball season, which I love, being both a Rangers faithful and growing up right next to Olsen Field, but I cannot even compare that love to what waits for me with the spring practice season. My team has our first practice this weekend and Spring Game weekend is coming in just a few weeks. This always marks one of my favorite weekends of the year, when the town floods with alumni, the first tailgate of the season, and looking at players you loved and players you could grow to love take the field for the first time in months. So I encourage you, if you’re within close distance of your college town,go there and watch them play. Whether it is just for a scrimmage or for the big game, go see how last season’s rookies are stepping up and becoming leaders; watch the talent you drooled over when they were being recruited step onto the field for the first team, eager to prove themselves. See what you have to look forward to in August because, regardless whether your favorite player headed out early to the draft or you’re watching a new coach prowling the sidelines, football season is comingand we have so much to look forward to. So make that migration back home, reminisce on your college years, and take notes because the best time of the year is going to be here before we know it!

71,872 in attendance for the “Southwest Classic” between Texas A&M and Arkansas at Cowboys Stadium.

I may not attend Texas A&M but having grown up in that sleepy college town, I love seeing that football program getting the respect it deserves. Mike Sherman is returning this team to the days of old, where we competed with (and hell, even beat..) powerhouses like Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska. Gone are the days of Dennis Franchione and his up & down, win 9 then lose 8 back to back seasons; gone are the days of being embarrassed on Thanksgiving with the whole nation watching. This team is full of fighters this year and looks to finish at least second in the Big 12 South and will possibly give Oklahoma a run for their money and the conference title game. But more of that to come later when I talk Big 12 & my expectations for this season..

Official BBC clip of Novak Djokovic beating Rafael Nadal to win Wimbledon, then eating some blades of grass from Centre Court.

In an interview after, the tennis champ said: “The tasting of the grass came spontaneously - it tasted really good!”

For the record, nutritionists later warned that eating grass is unhealthy and not a celebration to emulate (because spraying champagne in someone’s face, a tradition in many other sports, is so much better for you). Seriously? The man just won Wimbledon. He nibbled on a few blades; it’s not like he made a Centre Court Caesar salad.

I personally thought it was totally awesome, as did Djokovic’s fellow grazer, LSU football coach Les Miles, who was captured on camera gnawing on grass back in November.

Reasons Why I Love Sports: All of the above.

Love this.

This is one of the many reason we all follow sports, celebration great enough that you just NEED to eat the grass

What makes me mad..

..about USC losing their National Championship is not that Auburn now has even more reason to whine about not playing in in, not that LSU can rub USC’s noses in the fact that they’re the only champion from their year, and not that Oklahoma still lost (yes, I do in fact have a love affair with the way Bob Stoops coaches football. He is one of the greats of his generation). What makes me mad is now everyone won’t stop talking about a playoff system. Everything written about that announcement is followed by comments, anonymous of course because none of us are brave enough to attach our name to our thoughts anymore, blaming the FBS and BCS system for this problem and how a playoff would be better, blah blah blah. This is NOT about that. Did we all forget the reason USC lost all of its wins in the first place? This is about the Bush family and their illegal benefits. That’s all.

and I may be the only person who thinks the playoff system is going to make things worse. But that’s a story for another time.

Back to work! There’s an NCAA baseball regional going on & I’ve gotta take some notes!
